USEF enters ‘Scalagation’
Scalagation is a German-Dutch project to develop scalable aggregation services enabling standardized flexibility trading. The consortium, consisting of two mathematics and IT research institutes, an ICT specialist, a solar project developer, an energy retailer and an energy cooperation, aims to develop, test and validate multi-layer flexibility services for the smart electricity grid.
The main objective of the Scalagation project is to validate and mature myPowerGrid, a smartgrid services platform developed by Fraunhofer ITWM, which enables aggregation of many distributed energy systems to create value for all stakeholder across the industry value chain. The platform uses intelligent energy management techniques in order to optimize energy efficiency and to unlock the potential of flexibility for delivering energy services to different market parties. Within Scalagation, the project consortium will work together to identify the most critical needs of each key stakeholder, and to translate those needs into functional requirements for providing specific energy services.
The consortium intends to survey the multi-sided stakeholder requirements, to scope acceptable service value propositions and to draw an action plan for the establishment of such services in the market. To facilitate future scalability, the Scalagation project will expand the myPowerGrid platform to be compliant with USEF. Commercially neutral, USEF and the research institutes will investigate several key topics, including: technology, standardization, regulations, financial viability, social adaptation, and potential impacts. The results will be summarized as a report to communicate and share with the consortium partners and possibly other parties.
